Welcome to the golden years of insensitivity and sensitivy. The best time of our lives where we search for something to be mad about and we strive to provide nourishment for that group of searchers through clickbait. Forget the salutations and think for a second; when was the last time you were mad because you wanted to be mad and not because other people were mad? When was the last time you geniunely researched something and reached a conclusion which ended up defining your mood and response? when was the last time you saw a post and decided to scroll past it and not engage? when was the last time you created solid content and not driven by engagement to the point of being unethical, immoral, baiter, non-traditional and way too out of the box? we will dive into each of these questions as we discuss my thoughts on surviving rage baiters.
Way 1: Mad because you want to be
Mad according to thesaurus dictionary means to be enraged or angry and this has been used since 1400. To be enrage usually involves external factors, it can be caused by oneself or others, these days it is usually caused by others before it is caused by oneself (not a fact but you get my drift). You wake up in the morning and boom someone is already telling you several reasons for you to be angry, by the time the day ends; drained from all that anger. People are so engrossed in external factors that enrages them that they start to lose themselves or find fulfilment in anything other than that. Remember the story of the Lady who went on social media and claimed a well known content creator stole their idea, remember how people ate it up and were screaming “crucify him” just to find out it is their favorite content creator and he did no such wrong, now they jumped ship and went to the lady to scream “off with your head”?, If you don’t remember then you are welcome for the brief summary that I have provided. The best way to survive this is to take a step back and reflect before reacting, this way you are not reacting to what others are saying and then reacting the same way.
Way 2: Researching before reacting.
In the early days before the internet evolved to what it is today, when information pops up and makes its rounds to people’s ears; people would dig deeper before responding or reacting, now gone are those days. These days we wait for the information to land on our laps and boom before we even finish reading or listening or understanding, we start reacting right away. The speed at which we react before researching is faster than that of light, look at all these famous people that rush to talk about a cause they are not even fully aware of, I stand with so and so, I believe the so and so shortage is likely going to affect those that don’t pay (Like they are making half baked, half thought statements and they end up spending the rest of the year trying to justify or remove themselves from something they said without researching). Recently I came across the Kellogs boycott, apparently there was an advert where Kellogs was promoting their cornflakes as an option for dinner and people were not comfortable with that, then the CEO said something which even angered people further, anyway some parts of the world are boycotting (others have even gone to say they will do it for 2 months lol). The CEO has tried to apologize or do damage control but it is out there, if only they researched and not just reacted based on their need for sales; they wouldn’t be in this situation. To avoid lawsuits, to avoid missed opportunities, to avoid unintentionally hurting those around us, to make sure we are aware of what we are saying, then let us research before reacting.
Way 3: Scrolling and Not Engaging.
Rage baiters have found ways of garnering rage off of quick reactors. At first it used to be a deliberate mispronounciation in the video or crazy typo in the caption, then they moved to cleaning video, they would be cleaning and then randomly a dirty shoe would be in the fridge, or money in the bin, an egg turning into a chicken in the rice cooker, an underwear on the dining table; you get the drift. Then Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg thought they would join and provide subscription-based bluechecks, this made all those rage baiters to go full force, a normal tweet will have unrelated content under it or a wild take mostly from a verified account simply to get engagement and convert that into cash, and this becomes a problem because rage mongers can’t resist but fall into the trap. It is important to protect our mental health and remove ourselves from such people, whether they are podcasters, tiktokers, facebookers, instagrammers, and even main media sometimes, just scroll past or block if you can’t resist since some of them are unwavering and never tire, they continuously keep showing up.
Way 4: Create Normal Content.
The previous way spoke of rage baiters and how they use rage mongers to create content. People coming into the creative space are losing it, they believe the best way to stay relevant is to do what all the lazy people are doing. They believe it is genius but this form of genius is bottom tier as it pokes at the negatives of society just to make money. Normal content creators exist and they are getting overshadowed by the weird ones. The most followed person on Tiktok is Khaby Lame and he started by making ordinary content, that same content propelled him to where he is at now. The same would go for Mr.Beast, Cristiano Ronaldo, not sure about the Twitter one though. Anyway normal natural content seems boring now since we are in the age of over stimulation and hyper fixation but I am of the opinion that baby steps lead to impact, longevity and interest than Rage baiting. Rage mongers also need to find time out of their not busy schedules to actually rethink and recreate better than falling for cheap tricks and gimmicks.
In short, whatever reason we have for doing what we do whether on the internet or in real life; it has to be a reflection of what we truly want to see and emulate than chasing numbers through hate, ridiculousness and plain foolishness.
